Google Pixel 3 XL hands on review, photos and specifications

Google Pixel 3XL is the latest smartphone from Google and a successor to the Pixel 3. Even though the phone is yet to be launched, a Hong Kong mobile shop WahPhone Digital is already selling it. How they got the device ahead of launch remains a mystery but the device is out and our job is to do a full review and that’s what we’re going to do.

Richard Lai, an editor at  Engadget  obtained the device from WahPhone Digital who’s already selling it for HK$15,880 or around US$2,030 and I have to tell you, this device has to be the most leaked device in history.

Google Pixel 3 Design and display

If you don’t mind the big, ugly notch then you’ll see that the device is solid and feels premium. It comes complete with a pair of USB-C earphones.

A USB-C-to-3.5mm dongle, a USB-C-to-USB-C cable, a USB-C-to-USB-A dongle and an 18W USB-C power adapter. The screen is a big, lovely 6.3-inch OLED panel with a screen resolution listed as 2,960 x 1,440. The smartphone was “Designed by Google. Made in China.”

Google Pixel 3XL Processor and memory

As you can see, the smartphone features a Qualcomm Snapdragon SDM845 which is standard for today’s high end devices. One thing that’s surprising to me is the fact that it has only 4GB of RAM. I’m willing to bet that there’s a higher-end version with maybe 6GB or more RAM.

Google Pixel 3XL camera and software

The camera on this phone is quite powerful as it features a 12.2-megapixel resolution for the single main camera at the back, as well as the 8-megapixel resolution for the front cameras. The main camera can be used for recording videos of up to 4K 30fps, whereas the selfie camera is limited to 1080p. In the software department I hope you won’t be surprised to know that the phone comes with Google’s latest Android 9.0 aka Android Pie with gesture navigation. If Google’s latest flagship doesn’t have Android 9, who else will have it?

Google pixel 3XL battery, launch date.

The battery is an average 3,430 mAh, not up to 4000mAh I expected but it’s all good. As for the launch date, Google will hold the Pixel 3 event on Tuesday, October 9th, starting at 11AM ET. Apart from Google Pixel devices, we will witness next-generation Google Chromecast 3, a new Google Pixel Slate, a wireless charging dock for the new Pixel devices, and more. Now that this phone has leaked, be sure Google has more surprises up it’s sleeves ahead of the launch.
