Microsoft set to challenge Apple AirPods with its own wireless Surface buds.
Microsoft is set to be quietly developing its own wireless earbuds known as the Surface Buds. Information from Thurrott disclosed that the earbuds will most likely include Cortana and noise cancellation features. Rumours also suggest that we may likely see it at the end of the year although it’s not likely.
These new futuristic Surface-branded buds are made to take on the dominant Apple AirPods. The fast developing wireless earbud market is very competitive. As far as wireless earbuds are concerned, Apple seemed to be the only company that has succeeded in launching their own product with the right sound, size, price and design.
Chinese companies such as Xiaomi as well as competitors such as Jabra and Bose has launched their own versions but nothing compared to the Apple Airbud in terms of availability and simplicity.
Microsoft first entered the audio market by releasing the Surface wireless headphone late last year. They didn’t quite attract the right response from buyers. This is mainly because the sound quality was not so rich and also it was expensive.
I personally think this is the reason why the company has decided to try its luck in the wireless earbud market which is becoming popular and where Apple reigns supreme.
If you think Apple is the only one planning to challenge Apple in the earbud market, think again. This is because Amazon is also working underground on its own pair of wireless earbuds. This is designed to compete against the popular Apple Airpod.
