NOKIA 7.1. You can always count on HMD global to drop a quality smartphone as with the case of the newly released Nokia 7.1. Looking at the specifications of this latest member of the Nokia family you’ll observe that it is a midranger but that not withstanding, it has great power and can hold it’s own even in the face of heavy usage. When you hold the Nokia 7.1 in your hand, it feels really premium. That’s because the Nokia 7.1 sports a 2.5D curved glass backside and a metal frame. Let’s do a review about the key specs.
The Nokia 7.1 design and display.
In my opinion this is by far the best looking Nokia smartphone so far with it’s well rounded corners, slim bezels and a glossy glass back. It has a small notch at the front which houses the front selfie camera and the other sensors. At the back is a vertically aligned dual camera with LED flash and finger print sensor. Don’t expect an OLED display here, what we have in this phone is a 5.84-inch full HD+ LCD display.
The processor and storage.
Also I would warn that since the Nokia 7.1 is not a premium phone, don’t expect a Snapdragon 845 here. What it offers as a midrange phone is a power efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, backed up by a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Other regions will get the 3GB/32GB version but the 4GB/64GB version will be available globally.
The camera, battery and software
Under the hood is an average 3060mAh battery capacity which is way below my standard. I prefer 4000mAh battery because I’m a heavy user but this should be okay for light users. The cameras on the Nokia 7.1 are pretty decent as they produced some great quality images. The cameras on the Nokia 7.1 are 12-megapixel with a f/1.8 aperture and a 5-megapixel depth sensor on the back, with the front being an 8-megapixel f/2.0 aperture. I’m quite surprised that this phone is coming with Android 8.1 Oreo instead of Android 9 Pie. Not to worry, HMD says it will roll out Android Pie on the phone before the end of November.
price and colors
The Nokia 7.1 comes in two colors – Glossy Midnight Blue and Glossy Steel. As far as the price is concerned, the Nokia 7.1 is going up for pre-order tomorrow, for $349 while the 3GB/32GB model will start at €319. That is a very competitive price.
