At the MWc 2019 in Barcelona, world-leading chip maker Qualcomm announced a 5G platform for Windows PC. It’s called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G and it is the world’s first platform that will bring 5G connectivity for PC. Everyone is so focused on 5G for smartphones and not even paying any attention to the PC segment. Thankfully, Qualcomm has been working secretly to achieve this feat and it as finally come to light.
This 5G platform features Snapdragon X55 5G modem that will also be used in 5G smartphones launching this year. It promises high-speed connection and improved battery life for PCs. In an official blog post made by the company, it says
“Featuring the groundbreaking second-generation Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X55 5G modem, the Snapdragon 8cx 5G platform will help PC manufacturers take advantage of the global rollout of 5G networks.
Utilizing the power and performance of a premium thin and light PC, “the Snapdragon 8cx 5G will modernize how people connect, compute and communicate with their PCs.”
The company is currently sampling the Snapdragon 8cx 5G to OEMs including Windows and other PC makers worldwide. This technology will be available in PCs which will be released later this year. Qualcomm also says it will be bringing “quick charge” to wireless chargers as well.
