I know laptops are not really something to celebrate about these days, I mean not like smartphones but some laptops are really unique and stands out from the rest of the bunch. Taiwan tech giant Asus has been very innovative and has produced a laptop for the future. I call it dual screen because instead of just putting a traditional TouchPad, it put a 5.5 inch ScreenPad which looks like a second screen. This is so innovative and futuristic.
As you can see from the image above, Asus has taken Apple’s Touch Bar concept to a higher level by placing a5.5 inch IPS LCD display one layer over the swiping surface which of course implements some interesting functionality and I believe it is certainly innovative. The big question on everyone’s lips is, “is it actually useful ?” I mean who will want to watch a video on a screen when you have a much bigger screen right above it ?
This ScreenPad functions almost exactly like your smartphone screen. You can browse the internet in it, play videos, music, use calculator and type faster because it has a number pad and a keyboard just like Swiftkey that produces (imagine using the touchpad to select a word and right there next to your finger i). The best part is that it comes in FHD display. The problem is, instead of Android, it comes in Windows 10 so you have to add other apps from Asus’ app store, and the core icons can be rearranged and changed in the settings menu..
Windows 10 User Interface is quite difficult to control in extension mode — everything’s tiny at the default Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) resolution and you have to strain you eyes to be able to read from the screenpad. Fortunately, you can switch the ScreenPad to a more reasonable 800 x 600 resolution which will suit your eyes better.
You can still switch of the ScreenPad mode and use it like the good old TouchPad, that’s if you don’t fancy the ScreenPad. The ASUS Zenbook Pro 15 is one of the first laptops to get a top-tier Intel Core i9 processor. It is loaded with a 15-inch 4K touchscreen. It even has a halfway-decent graphics card for gaming (the Nvidia GeForce 1050Ti) but also has a hefty $2,299 price tag.
