ASUS ROG gaming phone: A GAMING MACHINE DISGUISED AS A SMARTPHONE
For those who don’t know the meaning of the ROG, it means Republic Of Gamers. This means that ASUS as a company is focus in developing gadgets for gamers. ASUS ROG smartphone is geared and designed for intense gaming and is one of the best gaming smartphone in the world.
Asus ROG Phone has innovative AirTriggers to expand game control beyond the screen and also excellent battery life. Mere looking at the design of the phone and it’s pulsating light-up logo, the Asus ROG Phone is designed for gaming. INTENSE GAMING.
Now the big question, what makes this phone a gaming phone ? First let’s start with the AMOLED display that can refresh 90 times a second — first of it’s kind for any OLED phone. What this means is that the higher refresh rate means less motion blur and faster response times. You can compare this phone with the Razer Phone 2’s ($800 at Amazon)120Hz LCD screen.
Another thing that makes this smartphone a gaming monster is it’s innovative features. It has on the ROG Phone gaming phone something called AirTriggers. These are pressure sensitive corners that double as bumper buttons for games.
AirTriggers can be programmed for specific functions. For example in, you can assigned one to fire a weapon and another to crouch. The speakers, dotted with copper colored grills, are wonderfully loud and produces bombastic high-quality sound.
ROG X mode and AeroActive cooler
Everything about this phone screams gaming! The ASUS ROG gaming phone has two USB-C ports. One on the bottom and the other at the side. The side port also supports a signature accessory, the detachable fan called the AeroActive cooler which comes with the phone. I know you think it’s funny to attach a fan to the back of your phone. Actually, it’s not ! It makes a big difference in terms of performance, especially if you’re going to be playing a game for over 20 to 30 minutes without a break. The fan keeps the phone from getting too hot while gaming. It also comes with a software setting called “X mode” which lets the processor run at its highest speed for longer during gameplay.

All other specs in this badass phone is the normal specs. A 4,000-mAh battery that lasts an incredible 15 hours and 5 minutes battery life. However, the front camera is a 8-megapixel shooter. It has dual rear facing 12-megapixel standard with OIS, 8-megapixel ultra wide angle. Image quality from the dual rear cameras is good. It also records video in 4K. They capture a nice amount of detail. HDR mode adds a bit more dynamic range to your picture quality. Features a massive 6-inch AMOLED; 2,160×1,080 pixels with 90Hz screen refresh rate.

This beast comes loaded with the most powerful Qualcomm processor of 2018. the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 clocked at (2.96GHz). In terms of storage, the ROG comes in two variants, the 128GB and the 512GB versions. Both has a RAM size of 8GB and does not support external storage. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box which can be upgraded to Android 9.0 Pie.

However, at the back of the phone is a fingerprint sensor. Unlike the Razr Phone 2, it has a headphone jack. Other features include what the company called ZenMotion. When the screen is asleep you can draw a letter on the screen to launch an app. Draw a “W” to unlock the phone and open the weather app or a “C” to open the camera. Besides showing this feature off to my friends and family, I didn’t find myself using it.
There is an app called ZenMoji that maps an AR cartoon avatar of an animal like a horse, cat or bear over your face. It works just like iPhone memoji or Samsung AR emoji. However, the 128GB model costs $899 which converts to £690 and AU$1,265 while the 512GB model is $1,099 which also converts to £840 and AU$1,545. The Razer Phone 2 costs $100 which is definitely cheaper, but you get less battery life.
